HIking into Chesler Park in The Needles section of Canyonlands. Canyonlands is one of five (known as the Mighty Five) and the largest National Park in Utah. Canyonlands is divided into three sections, The Island In The Sky, The Maze and Needles. As with most all National Parks there are many trails and places to hike, camp and explore.
A Park Ranger advised me to hike into Chesler Park for my first visit because the trail goes deep into the heart of "The Needles" which are the rock formations that this section of the park gets its name from.
The weather turned for the worse at my turn around point three miles in. On the return hike I was bombarded by thunder, lightning and rain which is a very dangerous situation to be in while hiking through canyon country. Not just because of flash flood danger but also because of the many exposed and high lightning strike areas. So the return trip will be a video all it's own.
