I love Lion and Dev Patel is one of my favorite actors. I do not agree with the clip I included at the time of this video's editing. I made this video essay for a film class I took. I wanted to compile clips that featured South Asians in stereotypical roles and contrast them with new voices that are emerging and combating those stereotypes. I highly recommend checking out Hari Kondabolu's documentary titled: The Problem With Apu. Let's create discourse about the types of roles we've seen and hope to see in the future!
