Lyrics:
Old was the age, when Ymir dwelt,
Nor sand nor sea, nor gelid waves;
Earth had not been, nor heavens above,
Naught but a void, a yawning void it was.
Of Ymir's flesh itself,
Was fashioned the earth,
Of his blood the seas,
Of his bones the hills,
Of his hair the trees,
And of his skull,
The heavens above!
First, a fiery southern realm,
Then, a cold were the mists dwell.
And when the rime met the heat,
The ice thawed and dripped,
It fell into the shape of a man,
The father of the jotnar!
Of Ymir's flesh itself,
Was fashioned the earth,
Of his blood the seas,
Of his bones the hills,
Of his hair the trees,
And of his skull,
The heavens above!
From his arms the female and male,
And then a son from his legs.
From the cow did flow the milk,
And as it did lick,
From the ice came 'nother man,
The father of all gods!
From him came Odin, Vili, and Vé,
Who must be the rulers of heaven and earth,
And so the giant they slew,
And so much blood flowed from his wounds,
In the flood the giants drowned,
All but Bergelmir and his wife.
Of Ymir's flesh itself,
Was fashioned the earth,
Of his blood the seas,
Of his bones the hills,
Of his hair the trees,
And of his skull,
The heavens above!
Midgard the gods,
Made from his brows,
And the baleful clouds,
They made out of his brain,
And then set this realm,
For the sons of men.
And so came the world,
And the cold giant was no more,
Of him all was made,
The world made by his death.
