Joshua Brown is a composer from Rossendale in the UK.
Reveille for solo organ was composed August - September 2021, and revised March 2023. This recording is from Simon Mercer's performance in St Ann's Manchester, April 2025.
Inspired by Bach's Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme BWV 645, the piece acts both as an awakening call and as a lilting, but comfortless, lullaby. It imagines the usual bugler's reveille as a more pensive and ambiguous thing, as the organist rouses those nearby with music that is expectant, questioning, and full of possibility.
