Military dependents' villages were once hubs of mainland Chinese culture in Taiwan, built by the hundreds of thousands of soldiers and their families who came with the Kuomintang government after the Chinese Civil War. With just around 30 left in Taiwan, these fast-disappearing thrown-together communities are important markers of history and cultural heritage.
