So today Maggie showed that she pulls on the lead, her owner said she doesn't normally only when she's in new places, which means, when she's excited! So we teach her that pulling/excitement doesn't get her what she wants!
This is lesson 1 of 4 so we get straight to work on the lead manners. it's a work in progress, and I've told the owner to practice with a short but loose lead as well as will the lead at full length (6ft) but making sure it's loose, and do zig zags, figures eights, slow walks, fast walks, sudden stops, turns...
it doesn't matter, just do different things so the dog learns to watch you more, the aim is to walk the dog on a loose lead, regardless of the length of the lead, because if the dog is focused on the handler the lead will never be pulled tight constantly.
