Donkeys have an incredible memory - they can recognise areas and other donkeys they were with up to 25 years ago.

Even though donkeys are pretty small, they are very strong! Donkeys are also different from horses because they have very long ears. They have short manes, or hair around their heads and necks. Donkeys usually have gray or brown fur.
They are members of the Equidae family, which also includes horses and zebras. They look a lot like their cousins, but have long, floppy ears and tend to be stockier than horses or zebras.
Compared to horses, donkeys are capable of independent thinking and decision making ensuring their safety.
Donkeys have obvious similarities to horses and ponies in their appearance – however, they are not completely similar. Donkeys have smaller hooves, are typically smaller in stature, and have stiffer, bristlier manes instead of lone flowing manes. Donkeys also have longer ears while horses have longer faces.
China has more donkeys than any other country in the world.
Donkeys have a special and very efficient digestive system that is capable of breaking down even the most inedible vegetation known.
A boy donkey is called a jack. A girl donkey is called a jenny.
A mule is the offspring of a male donkey and a female horse. A hinny is the offspring of a male horse and a female donkey.
Donkeys spend their days resting during the hottest part of the day. They are more active during the mornings and evenings, traveling and eating with the herd.
