We are taught that 'starting over' is a last resort—something that happens when we fail. But after rebuilding my life in my 20s, 30s, and 40s, I’ve realized that starting over is actually a superpower.
In this video, I’m sharing why the fear of being 'behind' is a lie, and how I transitioned from chasing milestones to finding a slow, intentional life.
You aren't losing time; you are gaining clarity.
What we’ll discuss:
Why your 20s aren't just for 'hustling.'
The power of quitting what no longer serves you in your 30s.
How to find calm and confidence in your 40s.
Why 'starting fresh' is the ultimate act of self-care.
You aren't starting from scratch. You’re starting from experience. Let's begin again."
Every stage of life offers chances to start over - rethink, reset, and rediscover what truly matters.
I’ve experienced many kinds of new beginnings — in my 20s, 30s, and 40s — and with each came lessons that helped me live more simply, calmly, and intentionally.
Whether you’re thinking about making a big change or simply looking for ways to live more fully right where you are, this video is for you.
20s
Your twenties are full of firsts — your first job, first love, maybe your first mortgage, and possibly your first major setbacks. This decade is often called the “defining decade” because your brain is wired to learn and adapt. It’s a time to explore, try things out, and begin shaping who you are.
For me, this decade was a whirlwind of saying yes to opportunities, chasing milestones, and believing growth meant filling every moment. Looking back, I see how easy it is to confuse building with overloading yourself.
At the same time, it’s tempting to think you have endless time. You might put off saving money, skip rest because your health feels unbreakable, or push yourself harder than you need to.
What I wish I’d known then is the importance of balance — between work and play, between going after dreams and protecting your well-being.
And through it all, be gentle with yourself. Mistakes, regrets, and moments of feeling behind are part of the journey.Whether you’re starting fresh or simply growing, creating space to pause and reflect can bring clarity even in busy seasons.
30s
Your thirties feel different. By now, you’ve tried enough paths to see which ones truly lead somewhere, and which just loop back.
For me, this was the decade of questioning, gentle endings and new beginnings. I left a steady teaching job that left me drained. I started my career as a freelancer. I moved from a noisy city to a quiet town with my son.
Starting over in my thirties wasn’t just about changing my environment — it was about clearing the noise to hear myself again. And in that quiet, I found freedom in living with less: less stress, fewer possessions, and only the commitments that truly matched my values.
As T.S. Eliot said, “To make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from.”
The biggest lesson I learned here is that whether you’re making a big change or simply refining your life, starting over means making space for what matters most.
40s
By the time I reached my forties, starting over felt less like a desperate leap and more like a skill I’d practiced. I’d learned how to adapt, let go, and rebuild. But now, I had something new: clarity.
Clarity makes decisions simpler. It helps you protect your peace and stop chasing things that look good on the outside but leave you drained.
Life keeps handing us moments to start fresh or deepen what we already have — sometimes by choice, sometimes by circumstance.
Each new beginning, or even just each new day, is a chance to live more simply, more intentionally, and more true to who you are.
I’m reminded of a Joni Mitchell song that says, “We can’t return, we can only look behind from where we came, and go round and round in the circle game.”
We may revisit familiar places and feelings, but we meet them as someone new — wiser, clearer, and a little more sure of what makes life worth living.
So whether you’re stepping into a big new chapter or simply continuing your journey, remember: you’re not starting from scratch. You’re starting from experience. And that is the most powerful place to begin.
