Samuel Moiseyevich Maykapar (Russian: Самуил Моисеевич Майкапар) (18 December 1867 – 8 May 1938) was a Russian romantic composer, pianist, professor of music at the St. Petersburg Conservatory, and author of a number of piano practice pieces.
This Arietta , set in the key of A min and in triple meter is a beautiful unheard melody. I would say this is a rare masterpiece by this composer.
The right hand is cantabile ( singing style) in nature. The left hand is like a river of chords on which the melody flows.
The mid section has a Piu Mosso( slightly faster and with movement) , which exhibits some agitation reaching a peak, ultimately falling down to meet the melody ( recapitulation)
The Recapitulation is now on the left hand, strong and re establishing the emotions.
One of my fav pieces of piano music.
Enjoy!
