Blackstar HT-5R Speaker Test - using the stock Blackbird 50 speaker and comparing it to the Marshall SL-5's stock Celestion V-30.
I changed the pre-amp tube from the stock Sovtek 12AX7WA to a lower gain JJ ECC81/12AT7 tube so I could get more useable range out of the gain control on the amp instead of having it be totally gained out with the knob on 3 which is how this amp comes using the stock 12AX7.
0:0 - 5:20 - Les Paul into Blackstar - Blackbird 50 (stock)
5:25 - 11:25 - Les Paul - V-30
11:30 - 14:30 - Fender Stratocaster - V-30
14:40 - end - Fender Stratocaster - Blackbird 50
The Blackstar is a GREAT little amp that has amazing features for the price and the build is top notch. With a new speaker upgrade and some better pre-amp tubes - it becomes an AMAZING little amp that can cover many bases and styles of music. I am probably NOT going to put a V-30 in there - I will probably go with another Celestion that is a bit darker to smooth out the raspy highs - or an Eminence Texas Heat or similar.
