About 30 kilometers southwest of Prague rises Karlštejn, one of the Czech Republic’s most famous castles.
The castle was begun in 1348 by King Charles IV as a secure place to store crown jewels, holy relics, and imperial treasures.
Built in the Gothic style, with massive walls, towers, and an inner courtyard, the castle has preserved much of its medieval character.
It is located in the village of the same name, on a hill above the Berounka River, surrounded by forests and rocky terrain, offering both an impressive view and natural defense.
