The Reworked Thundering Affix on Dragonflight Beta - 4 People Per Wave, 8 Second Stun for Failure
DRAGONFLIGHT POSTED 4 DAYS AGO BY SQUISHEI
The reworked Thundering affix is now testable on the Dragonflight Beta. 4 players are affected each wave and if you don't clear your debuff, the consequences are stunning -- an 8 second stun that will likely kill you!

New Thundering Affix in Dragonflight Season 1
Here is the new tooltip of the Thundering affix.
Thundering - While in combat, player are periodically overcharged with primal power from Raszageth's unending storm. This power comes with great risk, and failure to discharge it quickly can have stunning consequences.
Thundering Affix Explained
Here's how the reworked Thundering affix works:
On an average 75 second interval, Raszageth will fly over the arena causing a bunch of Lightning Strike swirlies. Getting hit will stun you for 1 second and deal some damage.
Once the storm is over, 4 players are chosen to deal with the mechanic with 2 players being debuffed with Mark of Lightning and 2 players being debuffed with Mark of Wind
The 3 dps are always chosen for the affix.
The healer or tank will randomly be chosen to get the final debuff, weighted towards the healer.
While you have the debuff, you deal 15% bonus damage. If you touch someone with the other debuff, the debuff is removed.
If the debuff times out, you are affected by Primal Overload, causing you to be stunned for 8 seconds and take damage over time (this damage kills you without significant healing).
These debuffs can be easily identified with different color orbs above players heads.
A few extra thoughts:
Tanks and healers will be dealing with Thundering around half often as the DPS during Season 1.
The punishment for failing the clear the debuff deals so much damage that if you don't get significant healing, you're likely dead. So it's stunning consequences in the way that it's so deadly.
Don't Run Back
The affix can proc on people who aren't with the group. This means that running back will be super dangerous this season (especially on DPS) as if Thundering procs while running back, you can't clear and will die again!
Initial Thoughts
Personally, I think the affix is super easy to deal with and way easier than the previous version while in combat. If you don't want to handle Thundering, you just stack up and can instantly clear. If you want to try to min-max the damage buff, you can! However, a major pain point that I initially see for this affix is that Tanks and Healers don't get to interact a very easy Damage and Healing buff very often. Once again, it seems like Tanks and Healers are getting the short end of the stack by essentially only getting half a Seasonal affix.
Some other concerns with the random selection includes:
Tanks generally do more damage than healers, especially on AoE pulls. Does this mean, RNG can screw you on extra damage?
Will there be issues with Tank Threat (as there is every patch) with DPS always getting 15% damage and a tank maybe not getting one?
Also, Thundering has some problems though with deaths and running back. With Thundering able to proc while running back, this means that running back and not getting back to your group in time means you'll die and someone else will likely die due to them missing their clear partner.
In conclusion, I think the in combat of the portion of the new Thundering is okay, brought down slightly by the random nature of Tanks/Healers getting selected and the DPS getting it always. The out of combat portion of Thundering seems to be a nightmare. In addition, this is first Seasonal affix without a mana regen buff since Darkmoon Fish Feasts were nerfed. It'll be interesting to see how healer mana is in keys now. Will it be an actual concern?
I think still this affix has a lot of issues still in its current form and would personally rate it a 4/10. What would you rate this affix currently?
