None of this would be possible without our incredible supporters, who we don’t just see as donors, but as family. Your belief in this mission is what makes every rescue, every meal, and every safe night possible.

The Big Hoof Foundation began in 2022 with just 11 Belgian Draft horses and a simple but powerful goal: to give at-risk equines a future. Since then, the mission has grown beyond anything we could have imagined. By the end of 2025, we had rescued 313 equines from shipping to slaughter horses and donkeys who were once facing uncertain and often heartbreaking outcomes. While not every one of those rescued animals is still with us, a large number now call our sanctuary home. Here, they are given the time and space to heal, form bonds, and rediscover what it means to feel safe.

Today, these horses are living full, meaningful lives with everything they need...consistent, nourishing feed; trusted friends to stand beside; and the freedom to move, rest, and simply be horses. Every day at the sanctuary is a reminder of what compassion, commitment, and community can accomplish when people come together for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Help Feed the Herd — Every Bale Matters
Caring for a herd of more than 160+ horses and 60 donkeys is a significant undertaking. To keep every animal healthy and strong, we have launched a dedicated feed fundraiser. Thanks to our generous partners, we are able to purchase round bales of beardless wheat for just $115 each. Our herd consumes approximately 210 bales each month, or about 14 bales every other day. Every sponsored bale plays a vital role in keeping our rescued equines nourished and thriving.

Support the Medical Fund — Healing Where It’s Needed Most
Since beginning our mission in 2022, we have rescued over 317 equines, many arriving with urgent and ongoing medical needs. From emergency surgeries and chronic condition care to routine vaccines and dental visits, medical expenses add up quickly. To ensure every horse and donkey receives the care they deserve, we have established a dedicated medical fundraiser. Transparency is important to us, and detailed veterinary invoices are available on our website.

We go through approximately eight bales of fresh alfalfa each day. Feed gifts can be sent directly from Mauls to help fuel recovery and daily care.
