Regular KGEM Producers Club Meeting. Special Guest, accomplished cinematographer/camera operator Monty Rowan has worked on numerous internationally acclaimed feature films. His experience in the film industry ranges from HBO series through low budget independents to celebrated Hollywood movies--most notably, "The Blindside," "A Simple Plan," and "Single White Female" to name a few. Monty has worked with many esteemed directors including Sam Raimi, Barbet, Schroeder, Harold Ramis, and most recently Scott Hicks on the Warner Brothers film "The Lucky One." Currently he is producing a feature documentary about the role of music in political activism. In addition to being a filmmaker, Monty is an exhibited still photographer with an abiding love for fine art photography.
Monty's lecture focused on the creative collaboration between the Director and the Director of Photography. The emphasis of the talk will be authorship. Who makes the movie? Is it the Director, the Writer, the Editor, the Actors or is it the Cinematographer? Through clips from movies that Monty has worked on, the audience examined the delicate interaction of creative minds that results in the magic that we experience on the big screen.
