The late 19th century and early 20th century saw massive advancements in firearms technology. One of these advances was the adoption of repeating firearms with magazines. A traditional bolt action repeater required the user to manually cam the bolt and draw it back where as a straight pull used a mechanical system to cam the bolt which involves one less motion for the user.
One of the supposed advantages of the straight pull system was a higher rate of fire and ease of use. This exercise will involve firing 5 rounds on a torso sized steel plate at about 100 meters on the clock. We also have some single shot and semi-automatic rifles to represent the predecessors and successors of straight pull and bolt action rifles to provide some context. So let's see how much faster a straight pull is.
