Hiking the Glacier Gorge Trail | Sky Pond

Описание: After a late flight getting into Denver, we woke up early to drive to Rocky Mountain National Park to get an early start on the Glacier Gorge Trail passing Alberta Falls, reaching The Loch, and seeing Timberline Falls, Lake of Glass, and Sky Pond. Finally ending at Mills Lake.

Since I flew out Sunday evening I missed the opportunity to get a “Timed Entry” permit. One must obtain this at 5pm the prior day. Well since I was on an airplane with no WiFi that didn’t happen.
I already had my 7-day National park pass.

There are grey areas with this timed entry permit. We got to the RMNP prior to the timed entry start at 4am. We were definitely not the first or only ones there that early.

We started Monday's hike from Glacier Gorge Trailhead as the sun was peeking over the mountains. The color of the Aspen trees were poppin and looking grand as always.

We made our way past several overlooks on the way to Alberta Falls. These were all breathtaking.
Seeing these grand mountains in daylight really showcases the mighty mountains of Colorado.

Up first was Loch lake. I totally could have ended my hike here because I didn’t think anything else that day could be as amazing as the hike was to this lake and seeing this lake OMG!

Off in the distance, you can see Timberline Falls. Such a beauty! Low and behold the trail goes right up to this waterfall. Which only flows a few times a year. We were lucky to see it flowing.
The views from here are just wow.

There’s a little bitty sign that reads “sky pond” and an arrow pointing up.

I’m thinking hell yeah I’m in for a scramble. As a rock climber, I’m always looking for rocks to climb.

There was a very beautiful lake so clear that we could see the bottom and see fish.
I had sat down to eat some food we were well over 10,000 feet of elevation at this point.
Then I’m seeing people pass me hiking on come to find out we were at “Lake of Glass” and ”Sky Pond” was a little further up the trail.

The views from Sky Pond I don’t think that I’ll ever forget. So amazing!

On the way back out we still felt great so we hiked a detour going to “Mills Lake” probably my most favorite lake on this entire trip.
