How to make Traditional Pulihora Recipe at home?
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 30 minutes
Serves: 8
Ingredients:
1. For Pulihora Mix:
Tamarind – 250gms
Red Chillies – 20 nos
Jaggery – 3 tbsps
Salt – 3 tbsps
Curry Leaves – 3 sprigs
Cooking Oil – 2 tsps
2. For Pulihora Rice:
Oil – 3 tbsps
Channa Dal – 1 tsp
Urad Dal – 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp
Red Chillies – 4 nos
Peanuts – 3 tbsps
Curry Leaves – few
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
Tamarind Paste – 1/2 cup
Cooked Rice – 2 cups
Method:
1. Add the tamarind to a bowl and wash it.
2. Soak the tamarind and take its extract in a separate bowl.
3. Heat a kadai, add the tamarind extract, red chillies, jaggery, salt, and a few curry leaves. Mix well and then add cooking oil to it.
4. Cook on low flame until the liquid thickens.
5. Transfer the paste into a bowl and set it aside.
6. Heat a kadai, add oil, chana dal, urad dal, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chillies, peanuts, and curry leaves. Fry this mixture until the groundnut turns light golden brown in color. Add turmeric powder and mix well.
7. Add the previously prepared tamarind mixture and cook on low flame until the oil separates.
8. Add salt and mix well.
9. To this, add 2 cups of boiled rice. Turn off the stove and mix well until the rice is coated evenly.
10. Garnish with coriander.
11. Your delicious Pulihora is now ready to serve!
