Why teach your horse shoulder in from the ground? What are the benefits of the shoulder in exercise? In this video I will explain exactly why shoulder in is an important exercise to increase strength, flexibility and balance of your horse and the first thing you can do to prevent your horse from falling in.
In the old days, horses were carefully trained for wars and battles. Gymnastic exercises, like shoulder-in, haunches-in, half-pass and pirouette, were used to shift the weight to the hind quarters and free the shoulders, so that the horse could quickly turn on the haunches to attack (or avoid) the enemy. These quick manoeuvres could save your life, so dressage led to well-trained and collected horses that could perform the most difficult exercises.
Nowadays, horse riding has become a popular leisure activity and for others it is a competitive sport. Very often, the lateral movements are trained for the dressage test without understanding the essence and gymnastic value of exercise.
This video will cover the following subjects:
How to use a small circle to prepare your horse for a correct bend for shoulder in
How shoulder in will be power training for the inside hind leg
How you can use a half halt to easier move the shoulder of the track
What is lateral flexion of the poll?
How you can use a neck rope to make it easier for your horse

This video will not show the perfect picture, but the process of how to explain it to your horse.
