Abu Tahir al-Jannabi was a *Persian warlord and the ruler of the Qarmatian state* in Bahrayn during the early 10th century. His reign (923–944 CE) is infamous for one of the most shocking events in Islamic history: the **sack of Mecca in 930 CE**.

🗡️ Rise to Power
Born around 906 in Ganaveh, Persia.
Succeeded his father, Abu Sa'id al-Jannabi, founder of the Qarmatian movement.
Took control by ousting his older brother, Abu'l-Qasim Sa'id.

⚔️ Military Campaigns
Led aggressive raids across Abbasid territories:
Basra (923)
Kufa (927)
Threatened Baghdad (928).
His forces were known for their brutality and strategic prowess.

🕋 Sack of Mecca (930 CE)
Abu Tahir entered Mecca under the guise of peace during Hajj.
Once inside, his troops **massacred pilgrims**, desecrated the Kaaba, and **stole the Black Stone**, which remained in Qarmatian possession for over two decades.
He reportedly taunted victims with Quranic verses, turning the holy city into a scene of horror.

🔥 The False Mahdi Episode
In 931, he declared a Persian prisoner, Abu’l-Fadl al-Isfahani, as the Mahdi.
This figure abolished Sharia law, revived Zoroastrian practices, and ruled briefly before being executed—possibly by Abu Tahir’s own family.

🧬 Legacy
Abu Tahir’s actions deeply fractured Islamic unity and shocked the Muslim world.
He died of smallpox in 944 at around age 38.
His successors struggled to maintain the Qarmatian state’s influence.
