During the session, we explored a methodology framework that enables near-real-time probabilistic risk analysis for digital forecasting and planning. Developed by Arne Brufladt Svedsen and Tørris Digernes, this method aims to allow grid operators to identify grid stress and flexibility needs well in advance, therefore adapting to the rapidly changing energy landscape.
Looking at how digital forecasting can enhance grid operation and planning, participants gained insights into how probabilistic models improve situational awareness, facilitate coordination between TSOs, DSOs and consumers, and inform flexibility implementation.
Drawing on experiences from Norway, the discussion highlighted how such approaches can strengthen resilience, improve efficiency, and support collaboration across Europe’s energy systems, while remaining mindful of the limitations and context-specific challenges of applying new digital tools.
