Welcome to another How-To DIY guide.
Today, we are going to be looking at setting up the Suspension Geometry and Steering Alignment on your BMW E39 M5.
The principle is the same for all cars, so no matter what vehicle you have, you can use this technique.
I assume that you have a good selection of tools and you will only need to spend around £30 on an inclinometer and any associated small sundries that are required.
Tools you will need are:
Axle stands / Bottle jacks / Blocks of wood - for supporting your string bars.
Cotton/fishing line (Fishing line is better as it's strong and smooth).
Spanners.
Digital inclinometer (£20 off eBay)
Camber/caster bar - You can make your own or buy the Gunsons one.
Permanant marker for marking the position of camber/toe arm cammed bolts at the rear of your car.
Steel ruler, or if you want super accuracy to within 0.5mm then use a digital vernier caliper instead.
2 lengths of wood or plastic conduit marked with equal distances.
Plenty of coffee and patients - This process can take a while.
Software for inputting your measurements is in the following link. Many thanks to the genius who wrote this superb little bit of Java and massive credit to Rob Robinette for making it freely useable on the internet for anyone:

Doing this process will take some time, but once you get the hang of it, it will save you money in the long run as you can perform this proces at home.
You must ensure that your car/van/etc is on a flat surface to start with, otherwise this will have an effect on any measurements you make/take and adjustments for camber/caster correction.
If you have any questions/comments, please post them and watch out for future videos.
