Game-based learning is a teaching approach that uses different forms of games, and the strategies or mechanics associated with them, for educational purposes. In the context of online teaching, it creates opportunities to make learning more engaging and stimulating for students. In the August OOLN Community Webinar, we heard from a Community of Practice based at the University of Ottawa which has has put together a bilingual OER on game-based learning and gamification for online teaching in higher education. It includes nine recipes, many tips, and a few surprises.
