If you can hardly grab the tissue under your cheekbone (right in front of your ear),
if it feels tight, sore, sharp, or oddly sensitive...
You have jaw tension, as so so many do.
That area is the masseter, wrapped in fascia; connective tissue that’s rich in nerve endings.
When fascia has been under load or stress for a long time, it becomes protective and reactive.
The good news:
Gentle, consistent touch can down-regulate that protective response.
This is what we call: neuromodulation:
• slow pressure
• small movements in different directions
• staying below pain, not pushing through it
Over time, the nervous system learns:
“This is safe.”
And the tissue softens.
So don’t force it.
Start easy.
Check again tomorrow.
You’ll usually notice you can grab more, and it hurts less.
And yes, when the jaw releases, the voice often follows.
