The Raven Speaks is a six-part suite based on songs of the Northwest Native American cultures living along the coast of Northwest Washington, Canada, and Southern Alaska. I. Coastal Forest and Raven, II. Totem Pole, III. Hat game, IV. Love Song, V. Grandmother Rock and the Little Crabs, VI. Northern Lights and Raven.
Both physical and mystical worlds exist simultaneously. The raven symbolizes both creation and mischievous adventure, characteristics reflected in Short's magical composition.
The Raven Speaks is second in the Northwest Tetralogy for Orchestra by Gregory Short.
