On January 30, the 195th birthday of Adele Brice, Bishop David L. Ricken, the 12th Bishop of the Diocese of Green Bay, promulgated a decree officially opening the cause for the canonization of Adele Brice and naming her a Servant of God. Adele Brice was the seer of Our Lady of Champion in 1859, the first and only approved Marian apparition in the United States.
It is for her prompt obedience, simple faithfulness, and trust in God that we hope she will one day be honored as a saint. Every day, families and pilgrims visit her gravesite, bringing prayers, flowers, and gratitude for her witness. Inspiring believers across generations.
This sacred act marks the official beginning of a long and prayerful journey toward sainthood, a journey rarely undertaken in the United States and unprecedented in the history of the Diocese of Green Bay.
