Walking Route A closes, due to a massive Lava flow. Search & Rescue teams were on hand to ensure everyones safety. The Lava defence wall was almost breached. There were approx. 30 walkers on their way down Route A when a massive river of Lava threatened to breach the defence wall at the bottom of the switchbacks. The Search & Rescue teams ensured everyone climbed high up on the adjacent hill, to get higher than the Lava. They subsequently retreated to lower ground and safety. Nobody was hurt.
Edit. 19th Sept. After leaving the area that night, the lava did breach the wall and Route A is now closed indefinitely.
