Minimalist does not mean irresponsible. It means tailoring your kits to your needs and being efficient. My solo kit differs in quantity to the kit I use for family outings. Also ensure you meet any legal requirements for where you are doing your activity.

Considerations for packing your emergency and survival kits are:
1. Weather and dramatic weather changes
2. Terrain and wildlife hazards
3. Number of people in your group
4. Experience level of the people in your group
5. Health requirements for your group
6. Darkness and considerations if you were to get stuck outside overnight
7. Some of your key considerations such as shelter, emergency communication, lighting and first aid

Always advise someone where and when you are doing your outing and what to do if you do not report back.
