[CHARACTER BIOS - SPOILERS BELOW]

steven quartz universe is a young boy from beach city, delmarva. his mother was once the leader of an alien rebellion. pink diamond, a powerful, otherworldly monarch now going under the name of rose quartz, fought against her fellow diamonds after seeing the beauty of earth’s natural life. she saw a world where beings could be whoever they wanted for the first time, rather than falling into the purpose her species were made to fulfill. long after the violent war and faking her own death, rose quartz fell in love with a human being named greg universe. being an alien known as a “gem,” her body was made of light projected from a single, powerful crystal. rose quartz decided to give up her physical form in order to create a child with greg, making steven universe the first half human, half gem hybrid. being half gem, he inherited many of his mother’s powers such as the ability to summon her iconic shield, the ability to float, and the ability to temporarily fuse together with humans and gems to become a more powerful being. he spends a majority of the series living with the last remaining gems of rose’s army (the no nonsense garnet, the angsty amethyst, and the neurotic pearl) as he learns how to use his powers, battles monsters, and uncovers more about gem culture and his mother’s more hidden away past. also the show is very openly queer, which is awesome.

minecraft is a sandbox game made of blocks where you can do anything. the player could collect valuable gems, build structures, forge powerful weapons, farm, pillage temples, and so much more. it was created by a guy going by the name of notch online before being sold to microsoft. notch then went on to be an idiot about minorities publically on the internet. the game was mega viral, becoming the best-selling game of all time and spawning dozens of content creators over the years, from dantdm to dream. it also had a really, really bad movie. the player doesn’t have many defining traits other than the name steve, and thus the video took some creative liberties to clash with the overly optimistic steven universe. chicken jockey.
