After getting the omni-wheels installed on the droid, and with the weather being unusually good today, R5-B2 made her way outside for the first time to try steering on various hard surfaces. With the motors running flat out, the droid managed to run for a full hour or so with the small rechargeable battery, and may be able to run indefinitely if it was leap-frogged onto another on standby. Good fun, very unlike anything else I've built!
This R5 astromech build was made using lightweight materials and hand tools. Crude in some places, I'm quite happy that it works as well as it does. There are a few things to finish up, including more heavy weathering.
