This video clip shows so-called "slack action" in a locomotive cab causing strong shocks and vibration to crew members. It is caused by the forward and backward motion of railroad cars and its motion to an adjoining coupled car. See also: wikipedia.org/wiki/Slack_action . It was part of a FELA injury investigation by this investigator regarding neck and back disorder claims of crew members. It also illustrates the importance of a firmly mounted seat with good and high back support. Typical of slack action is that crew members cannot precisely prepare themselves for the incoming jolt and brace themselves in a timely and adequate fashion.
