Описание: This talk provides an overview of how social inequality gets under the skin and impacts health and well-being, focusing on the contemporary experience of the UK, Europe and the US. Drawing on recent social epidemiology, the talk highlights findings from the UK, in the form of Richard Wilkinson and Kate Pickett's ground-breaking work on the impacts of inequality. It also highlights the work of US based authors Anne Case and Angus Deaton whose book Deaths of Despair points to a growing divide around health outcomes for those who do and do not have University degrees. Overall, the talk is a call for action to address the deleterious impacts of inequality. As Pro Vice-Chancellor Research & Innovation, I am responsible for driving forward the University’s research and knowledge exchange strategy and outcomes. As a member of the Senior Executive Team (SET) and Senior Leadership Team (SLT), I ensure that the research and knowledge exchange strategy is consistent with the current Citizen Student Strategy. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
