'Rup Rupantar', is a documentary film about the vibrant life of Bahurupias, focusing on two men, Srihari Rai of West Bengal and Kishanji of Delhi who have persevered through all odds to preserve this art form with pride and passion.
'Bahurupia', meaning many forms, is a folk art form of India with performers who disguise themselves as characters from the rich tapestry of traditional folklore, carried on for generations ; Once upon a time Bahrupias were much loved by people for they taught a lesson or two about life. Slowly other modes of entertainment took over. Today, the Bahrupias struggle for existence as the form is slowly fading away behind the dazzle and shine of consumerism and technology.
The documentary takes people on a journey into the lives of these extraordinary people, as it delves into the exploration of human nature itself.
