An ankle sprain is an injury to the ligaments — the strong bands of tissue that connect bones at the joint. It usually happens when the foot twists or rolls inward or outward beyond its normal range of motion, overstretching or tearing these ligaments. Pain, swelling, bruising, and difficulty bearing weight are common symptoms.
Common Causes
Stepping on uneven ground
Sports movements like cutting or jumping
Mislanding from a jump
Sudden twists while walking
Grades of Sprain
Grade I – mild stretching of ligaments
Grade II – partial tear
Grade III – complete ligament tear (more severe)
Exercises help:
