Our first impressions of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan! Warm, friendly people greeted us as we ventured through the capital of Kyrgyzstan in search of everything that makes this nation so great. We tried the national drink Kumis, made by fermenting raw horse milk, and ventured deep into Osh Bazaar. A local girl showed us an old soviet drinks dispenser and we reminisced on the English markets of old. In need of a haircut, we found a local barber and I had a great haircut from a 17-year-old Bishkek local called Cooper. During the haircut, an elderly lady started up a conversation with us, complimenting me on my "good looks". Later in the conversation, we discovered she is a former USSR boss who worked as Chairman of Komsomol. She told us what life was like under the USSR and told stories from her career in the Trade Unions. Keeping in tune with this, we discovered in the public park, adjacent to the only remaining Lenin statue in the country, there is an old soviet theme park with some absurd renditions of cartoon characters from Western film and TV. We enjoyed meeting locals in the park and hesitantly enjoying some of the rides which were like something out of Final Destination. Topping the day off by eating the national dish of Kyrgyzstan, beshbarmak, a horse meat and noodle dish with some local Kyrgyz wine & beers.

What a great city we're excited to explore more of Kyrgyzstan!
