Best known for his unforgettable portrayal of Jonas “The Skipper” Grumby on Gilligan’s Island, he became one of the most cherished television figures of his era. Born in Los Angeles in 1921, he first appeared in films as a child, building a steady career in Hollywood throughout the 1940s and 1950s.
