Knowing your power and using it for good. It's a beautiful thing!
Rukaiyah Adams, CEO of 1803 Fund, is a masterclass in exactly this - exuding power and making the community better through her power. Most importantly, she leads with warmth and connection, but she is also highly aware that she is one of the most powerful people in Portland and dare I say the state of Oregon.
Rukaiyah shares with us the transformative effect that 1803 Fund is having by strategically pouring $ billions into properties in the Albina district in NE Portland that will re-shape Portland over the next 10-15 years - not just the black community, but ALL Portlanders will benefit. Anyone who goes to a Blazers game or uses the Eastside Esplanade or will be able to hang out at a new Riverfront park that was never there before and now provides river access.
We were so engrossed in our conversation, that LinkedIn made me split the video into 2 parts. Episode 1 is more about future-casting for our great city and Episode 2 is more about what we need to do right now! Also, huge shout out to all of my entrepreneur friends in Blueprint Founders Circle who went deep with Rukaiyah last year and continue to make a difference in Portland: Tyrone Poole, Camille E. Trummer, Shari Dunn, Alexis BralyJames, Lili C. Yeo, Anna Madill, Eleazar Ruiz, Phil Chun, Serilda Summers-McGee, Dr. Carol Parker Walsh, Carla Titus, Cinthia Manuel, Gina Daley, Miho Hatanaka, Augusto Carneiro, Ken Tomita, Melody Brown, Ly Thuy Mai, Wilson K., Zanele Mutepfa Rhone, Fatou Outarra, Su Embree, Adam Peaker, Carter McClure, The Script
Portlanders - I highly recommend you reach out to Albina Vision Trust and see it all with your own eyes. JT Flowers is a gem and one of the smartest, most engaging tour guides I've ever met - a true leader.
