Описание: The U.S. Navy's newest destroyer, the USS Spruance (DDG 111) arrived in Key West Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, for its commissioning ceremony set for Saturday, Oct. 1. At almost 510 feet long, Spruance is a multi-mission ship that carries Tomahawk cruise missiles, a 5-inch gun, sonar systems and two helicopters, Spruance is powered by four gas-turbine engines and is capable of speeds in excess of 30 knots. Although Key West has a long Navy tradition with operations beginning as far back as 1822, the Oct. 1 ceremony is to be the first time that the Southernmost City in continental America has hosted a Naval vessel commissioning. The ship is named after Admiral Raymond Spruance, an aircraft carrier task force commander during the Battle of Midway in World War II.
