HOW TO SERVICE A K&N PERFORMANCE AIR FILTER! | FOCUS RS

Описание: My high flow performance air filter from K&N gets a recharge!

Like many people with a car that is even a little modified, I have a high flow air filter that replaces the restrictive stock paper filter in my Ford Focus RS, mine being from K&N (as supplied as part of the Mountune FPM375 stage 1 kit).

I have had the K&N air filter as part of my induction kit for about 2 years now and during that time, my Focus RS has been at Ford multiple times for service. Normally at a scheduled Ford service, the paper air filter is changed out for a new one but having the K&N replacement filter which are cleanable 'million mile' filter, Ford simply didn't touch the air filter.

I also have not touched the air filter since it was installed which means that it is likely that it could really do with a good service!

This type of air filter uses cotton that has a special type of oil absorbed into it so then when air is sucked through the oiled cotton, the air gets through but any dust / dirt gets trapped in the oil in the cotton.

This means that over time, depending on how dusty / dirty the roads are that you drive on, the filter will get a build up of dirt trapped in the oiled cotton and eventually will effectively 'clog' it and reduce its efficiency which is obviously bad for performance as we want as high flow as possible!

You will see that I have a spare K&N filter ready to swap into the car so that I can keep driving while the 'proper' filter is in the process of being recharged (step 3 below can take some time to fully complete and my Focus RS is my daily driver!)

The steps boil down to:
STEP 1 - Apply K&N Power Kleen
STEP 2 - Rinse your filter with low pressure water
STEP 3 - Allow your filter to dry naturally
STEP 4 - Apply K&N filter oil

Step 3 realistically took a few hours to complete but I left it over night to be sure and so am very happy that I had a spare K&N air filter to hand!

All in all, my filter was pretty dirty, as you will see from the colour difference - very dull and dark looking when it came out vs vibrantly red when it went back in nice and fresh - so I am super happy with the job, happy that my K&N air filter is performing to its maximum now and very satisfied with the performance and ease of use of the K&N Recharger kit!
