The Penn State Nittany Lions Football team is now fully focused on the future. It’s January and time for Junior Days on campus for Penn State, which is roughly two weeks behind, thanks to the team’s need to build its 2026 roster in the transfer portal. Today on the BWI Live Recruiting Show, we’re discussing the latest recruiting news, including the report that the team is in the lead for five-star running back Kemon Spell. We’ll also discuss the other visitors coming in this weekend to meet the new coaching staff, plus the team’s travel schedule. Where have the coaches been in the last week or so? Reporter Ryan Snyder has been tracking the team’s progress, and we’ll discuss some of that intel on today’s show.

Penn State trending to retake Kemon Spell’s commitment

Earlier this week, Rivals national reporter Steve Wiltfong put in a pick for Penn State to land five-star running back Kemon Spell. Spell was originally committed to the program before decommitting during the team’s three-game losing streak in October. Now, he’s seemingly on the verge of joining the new staff in Happy Valley. So, what do our reporters think of the situation? Snyder and Sean Fitz will discuss what they know of the Spell situation and what they think the timeline for a decision may be for Spell.

We’ll discuss the broader impact of getting Spell back in the fold for the team’s reputation in the region and as a staff stepping up to a higher level of competition.

Junior Day visits

Of course, Spell isn’t the only player visiting this weekend, and he’s not the only elite player in Pennsylvania for this cycle. We’ll discuss the other players who plan to attend Penn State’s first Junior Day. Is the team making the right moves to make up ground on their late start into the Class of 2027? We’ll discuss how the team shortened the curve by keeping Terry Smith and key staffers on the roster.

Finally, we’ll discuss where the coaching staff has been over the last week since the transfer portal closed and the open period started, where coaches can go on in-home visits.
