Just a year ago, the industry was still debating ±400V; today, there's simply not enough room for a 50-V bus bar to support megawatt-scale racks.

Butler walks through what's still unsolved: safety standards built for AC that don't translate cleanly to DC, arc-flash risk at blind-mate connectors, and the industry's "holy grail"—a single-stage 800V-to-0.6V power module that doesn't exist yet. He details how solid-state transformers could collapse today's fragmented, multi-stage power chain into a single 99%+-efficient conversion, and how Flex's utility acquisitions are targeting the grid-interconnect bottleneck between generation and data center load.
