Science Communication Beyond Words: Feelings, Identity, and Culture | Webinar with Louise Whiteley
Science communication isn’t just about translating technical knowledge into simple language—it’s about connecting through feelings, identity, and culture. In this engaging seminar, Louise Whiteley, Associate Professor and Curator at the University of Copenhagen’s Medical Museion, explores the deeper dimensions of science communication, highlighting why gaps in understanding spark creativity and foster mutual understanding.
Join Louise as she challenges traditional views of science communication, showing how it goes beyond words and contributes to the creation of new communities. Through her extensive work with exhibitions, objects, and artworks at the Medical Museion—a public museum dedicated to the past, present, and future of medicine—she demonstrates how these elements enhance communication and deepen our connection with science.
Drawing from her collaboration with scientists and artists at institutions like the NNF Center for Basic Metabolic Research, NNF Center for Stem Cell Science (reNEW), and the Copenhagen Health Complexity Center, Louise shows how thoughtful, culturally aware communication is essential for both interdisciplinary research and public engagement.
🔹 What you’ll learn in this webinar:
1.) How science communication extends beyond linguistic translation
2.) The role of feelings, identity, and culture in communication
3.) The power of exhibitions, objects, and artworks in telling science stories
