Drawing on the folk-classical traditions of India, the ethos of it is rural, but the presentation, in lyrics, music, form and arrangement, takes an urban flavor. In this journey, the sense of loss remains constant, ominously floating over the barren landscape that has been left behind.

The pent up emotion builds up and rises as the thunderclouds come and the wailing zitar hits midway through the track.

Eventually, the cloudburst comes as a relief, hope shines through, and someone, lost, makes the journey back, through the forest, like an eternal pilgrim who lives in all of us..

The Backstory of CROSSING OVER

This is the musical version of the proverbial lost and found. The centerpiece: A five-year-old live jamming session at Studio Vibrations, with bass guitar ( Laltu Ray ), electronic piano/keyboard( Dipankar Vaskar ) , acoustic drums( Gopa Deysarkar ), tabla ( Soumen Sarkar ), all chiming in with the improvisations of my Birha compositions. Next came in Sarod ( Prattyush Banerjee ) , Santoor (Sandip Chatterjee) , Zitar( Rahul Chatterjee ), and Sarangi (Alla Rakha Kalavant ) . Anirban, was frantically trying to keep our big team together. Everything got lined up. Ready. Then... I left all of it to the elements, to be forgotten.

Like an old dream, it came back to me in 2019 with a vengeance. Dusted up, the power of the compositions still had a strong pull, and a crossover sound was there, to be set free. Fabulously recorded and mixed/refurbished in two studios ( Goutam Basu , Soumen Paul ) over this five-year period, the six-track crossover album hit the stores, finally.

Art has the power to reinvent itself. This work is proof.
