Based of Ralph Cutter's original EC Caddis, the CDC Tiltwing dry fly employs a wing of deer hair as a post, around which a parachute of cul de canard (CDC) is wrapped. Gordon van der Spuy (aka The Feather Mechanic) has adapted the original EC Caddis design by replacing the hackle with CDC in the Tiltwing, to serve better on slower moving, ultra-clear trout streams. In this mayfly imitation, CDC works well as a parachute because it is a mobile material and is reactive in light; both things that encourage the successful imitation of a natural mayfly
