The History of Dust 2 Callouts in Counter-Strike

Aside from that, the Dust II collection has been introduced to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on November 27th, 2013, and since then, was home to numerous matches, tournaments, and controversies.

Come October 9th, 2017, the official CS:GO Twitter and Instagram accounts have announced that a beta access for a reworked version of Dust 2 is available and a little longer than a week later, the revamped version of CS:GO Dust 2 was released on October 18, 2017.

As such, Dust 2 became the fourth map in Global Offensive to have underwent a map revamp, after Train, Nuke and Inferno.

Regardless of its revamp, Dust 2 callouts behind the map didn't change. Here are some facts and history behind some of the most interesting CS2 Dust 2 callouts.

According to Jess Cliffe, the original creator of Dust 2, the Dust 2 long area exists purely because he has ran out of world space.

At the time the Dust 2 long area was added, it appearantly felt super awkward and even detrimental to Dust 2, but it had survived and became one of the most iconic spots within the game.

People say that the Dust 2 ramp area leading upwards from the Dust 2 CT spawn was meant to keep on going, but had to become a T-junction to the Dust 2 Goose and Dust 2 Pit areas.

When it comes to Dust 2 catwalk or the Dust 2 short area, cat is short for catwalk, which would mean "a narrow walkway."
People call it Dust 2 short because it shortens the time taken to reach the Dust 2 A site.

The boost area is called that way because it lets counter-terrorists boost towards the Dust 2 short area.

Elevator is called that way because when walking backwards from the boost area to it, people can better observe the Dust 2 short area.
The same works the other way around, too.

The cross is called cross because that's where terrorists often cross towards the Dust 2 A site when pushing Dust 2 long.

Another notable object would, of course, be the area where people throw the dust2 xbox smoke. The Dust 2 xbox area is called Dust 2 xbox because of its appearance in CS 1.6 - the area where you throw a dust 2 xbox smoke looks like a box and has the letter "X" on it.

Dust 2 pit is short for a pitfall and the area is called that way because it provides some cover to hide from the opposing team.

The Dust 2 mid area is called that way because it's literally positioned in the middle of the map, while platforms are called that way because of their significance on both of the sites (they're pretty large.)

The Dust 2 Goose area is where you throw the Dust 2 Goose molly and the Dust 2 Goose flash - it is called Goose because on the wall there is a graffiti that spells out "Goose."

Some callouts are, of course, self-explanatory with the "dust 2 car" callout called that way because the area has a car in it, "fence" and "close left" is near a fence or close to the left side and so on, and boost areas provide players with better visibility when boosted.
