This video explores Tainan, Taiwan’s oldest city, through a journey that moves from grand architecture to everyday life — from museums inspired by Europe to streets shaped by centuries of trade.
The journey begins at Chimei Museum, a neoclassical landmark known for its Western art collections and monumental design. Walking across its ceremonial bridge, reflecting lake, and classical sculptures, the museum introduces ideas of order, balance, and cultural exchange — a striking contrast within southern Taiwan.
From there, the story shifts to Anping, where Taiwan first connected with the outside world. Near the former harbor, ships once arrived carrying sugar, salt, camphor, and people. Trade passed through the Anping Customs House, where goods were inspected and approved — a quiet building that once decided fortunes.
Nearby, abandoned merchant warehouses were slowly reclaimed by banyan trees, forming the atmospheric Anping Tree House. Here, nature and history merge, showing how time reshapes places once driven by empire and trade.
The walk continues along Anping Old Street, Taiwan’s earliest commercial street. Long and narrow, it grew organically as merchants, sailors, and residents gathered to trade, eat, and talk. Today, food stalls fill the street, but its rhythm remains slow and social — built for walking, not rushing.
The video ends with one of Tainan’s most iconic dishes: Huang Jia Eel Noodles. Stir-fried over fierce heat with garlic, vinegar, and a signature Tainan sweetness, eel noodles represent the city’s working-class food culture — bold, fast, and deeply local.
This is not a checklist travel guide.
It’s a walk through how art, trade, streets, and food continue to shape daily life in Tainan.
From Chimei’s symmetry to Anping’s lived-in streets, this is a city where history is still moving.
