The Rainbow Skywalk, Malaysia's highest outdoor glass skywalk, is located atop Komtar, the tallest skyscraper in George Town, Penang, at 248.7 metres. Komtar is an acronym for Kompleks Tun Abdul Razak, Malaysia's second Prime Minister. The Rainbow Skywalk opened to the public on 18 December 2016 as part of a major renovation by Only World Group. This rainbow-shaped glass walkway spans 16 metres and offers panoramic views of George Town and its suburbs. In 2012, Only World Group was awarded a RM50 million project to revitalise Komtar. This included adding a banquet hall, a sky lounge on the 65th floor, and an international-themed restaurant at the summit. The Rainbow Skywalk, situated on the newly added 68th floor, uses heat-treated, temper-proof glass tested by Universiti Sains Malaysia to support up to 16 adults. Three high-speed bubble lifts were also installed, though their transparent walls were later concealed for safety.
