Crop digital twin, or traditionally called crop model, and model simulation have been used extensively in research, education, and extension service. This seminar will cover the concept, formulations, and features of typical crop simulation models, as well as examples of its applications. In addition, the strengths and weaknesses of simulation modeling and caveats in its applications are discussed.
Dr. Haishun Yang is Crop Modeler and Associate Professor in the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, University of Nebraska – Lincoln (UNL), USA. He obtained his MSc and PhD degrees from Wageningen University, The Netherlands. His expertise includes modeling crop growth and yield, soil organic matter turnover, carbon cycling, crop nutrient requirement and recommendation, and bioenergy system lifecycle analysis. He has published several computer simulation models, including the Hybrid-Maize model, the Maize-N model, the DK C&N model, the BESS model, and the CornSoyWater online irrigation app. He also has published more than 60 peer-reviewed journal papers and book chapters. He has taught for 10 years of Crop Modeling, a graduate course at UNL.
