Did you know Dune: Part Two captured a REAL solar eclipse on camera — and used it in the movie? 😱

While filming in the deserts of Jordan in October 2022, director Denis Villeneuve and cinematographer Greig Fraser witnessed a real partial solar eclipse. This was not planned. This was not CGI.

Instead of ignoring the moment, they turned the cameras toward the sky — and that real eclipse footage ended up in the film’s opening battle sequence.

So the shot of the partially covered Sun you see in Dune 2?

It’s not animation.
It’s not VFX.
It’s REAL.

Later, the VFX team added a second moon in some shots to create Arrakis’ iconic double-eclipse sky — mixing real nature with science fiction.

Sometimes, the best visual effects… come from reality.
