Ukunda began as a small Swahili village along the South Coast of Kenya.
Before the tourism boom, it was home to fishermen, farmers, and traditional coastal communities.
When Diani developed into a major international destination in the 90s and 2000s, Ukunda grew rapidly as workers, hotels, bars, restaurants, supermarkets, villas, tour companies, boda boda riders, and local businesses settled here.

Today, Ukunda is a busy, vibrant, multicultural town and one of the fastest growing urban centers in Kwale County.
