Yana Najjar, MD, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, Pittsburgh, PA, describes the challenges in treating acral and mucosal melanoma, highlighting how current strategies largely mirror cutaneous melanoma approaches despite poorer outcomes. There are limited options post-progression on ipilimumab-nivolumab, but relatlimab-nivolumab and lifileucel has been used for advanced cases, though these are not always feasible. Emerging therapies in trials like ARTISTRY-6 (NCT04830124) and next-generation cellular and checkpoint therapies represent promising avenues to address these difficult-to-treat melanoma subtypes. This interview took place at the 21st International Congress of the Society for Melanoma Research (SMR) in New Orleans, LA.
